HELD is a collaborative installation between myself and light projection artist LUCIA. Two version of the piece ran in concurrent shows in Carbondale, CO and New York, NY in Spring 2025. HELD (I and II) are viewer responsive works that must be experienced in person. In both versions, my mirror-image (Rorschach) paintings of maternal care serve as the contextual ground and framework for LUCIA’s interactive light and sound. As one physically approaches the painting, light expands and the volume increases to envelope the viewer. The sound resonates at 528 hertz, the love frequency, shown to increase oxytocin and reduce stress hormones. The overall effect is calming and soothes the nervous system, akin to being held.
